Richard and Glenna are a dynamic couple who bring immeasurable spirit, energy and impact to Oklahoma City
Glenna was born in Oklahoma City and raised in a warm Jewish home. Her parents, prominent members of the community, inspired her to “give back to the community” that gave her so much. She began her career in community service in sixth grade, realizing how good it made her feel to help others. She never turned back, making volunteering her way of life—a Jewish way of life.
In Houston, while operating her own interior design business, she served on the Board of Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood, was president of Temple Beth Israel PTO and chaired a division of the United Jewish Campaign.
When she returned to Oklahoma City in 1997, Glenna became a full-time professional volunteer becoming involved with the Oklahoma City Orchestra League and the Symphony Designer Show House, serving as co-Chair in 2001 and again in 2009. She served as President of the Oklahoma City Orchestra League in 2005. Glenna is presently serving a six-year term on the board of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She also served on the Sisterhood Board of Temple B’Nai Israel and is a Federation “Lion of Judah”. Glenna’s passion is raising money for music education, serving on the Board of the Philharmonic Endowment Campaign.
Glenna’s proudest commitment to this community has been her involvement in the Chabad Center, seeing it as essential to the future of Yiddishkeit in Oklahoma City.
Richard grew up in a proud Jewish family in Cuba, prominent members of the local community. His grandfather was very instrumental in building a Jewish community center in Havana. The communist takeover of Cuba had a big impact on his life and put his family on a journey that took them to New York and Houston.
Richard owned and operated over 18 restaurants in Texas before joining Gardner Tanenbaum Group. Today he is the principal owner of GTG with over 35 years of commercial real estate experience. Since 1997, he has overseen the growth of their commercial portfolio, completing over 35 projects and making GTG one of the largest developers in Oklahoma. Their portfolio includes single- and multi-tenant warehouse and distribution facilities, large single-tenant office complexes for companies such as Boeing and Northrop Grumman and over 1,000 apartment units.
Richard serves on the Commercial Real Estate Council (CREC), is a board member of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and was recently appointed Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce TRDC Co-Chairman.
Richard is very passionate about being a proud Jew. After moving to Oklahoma City in 1998, he felt the need for a warm community center and following naturally in his family’s footsteps was invaluable to building the Chabad Community Center for Jewish Life and Learning.
Richard and Glenna have been married for 33 years and have two children, Stephen and Becky, and ¬daughter-in-law, Juliana. Richard and Glenna are proud to see that their family have followed in their footsteps recognizing the importance of doing mitzvahs and community service. They are certain to continue to be an inspiration to others and a light unto the nations.
